South Carolina Team Preview: 2010 Season
The University of South Carolina fans have been waiting for a long time...some say too long for a chance to compete for an SEC Championship game berth. They enter the 2010 season as a dark horse to win the East division. Head Coach Steve Spurrier knows this year is his best chance since he has been at South Carolina to win the division. He returns his starting quarterback Stephen Garcia even though he looked horrible against Connecticut in the bowl game, he has the tools to succeed this year. If he can keep the interceptions low and limits most of his mental mistakes this could be his greatest year. One of the best kept secret in college football is South Carolina's defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson. Johnson has continued to coach one of the best defenses not only in the SEC but in the country as well. This year his defense could be his best yet as he has two great corners in Chris Culliver and Stephon Gilmore to work with. This South Carolina team is a boom or bust type team and if they don't finish with at-least ten wins it could be a very disappointing year for the Gamecocks.
